Hot Japan based prospect, Venezuelan Jorge Linares, passed the toughest test of his career with a ten round stoppage of former 122 pound kingpin Oscar Larios. The bout ended tragically as Larios suffered a minor subdural hematoma on his brain and will likely never fight again.
The WBC featherweight title bout was the co-feature fight of the evening, and both Linares and Larios did their part in providing an entertaining scrap.
Linares (24-0), 21, was too much to handle for the 30 year old Larios (59-6-1), as he used both hands to pound the Mexican and eventually put him into submission with a left-right combination in round ten.
With the victory, Linares established himself as one of the premier 126 pounders in the world. Just a year earlier, Larios went the distance with superstar Manny Pacquiao; Linares had no trouble stopping the rough vet.
